Add Matter Details and Give Vincent Standing Context

Learn how the matter summary, key facts, and parties in a Vincent Project orient your team and give Vincent standing context in every conversation.

Summary

Learn how the matter summary, key facts, and parties in a Vincent Project give your team a quick orientation and give Vincent standing context it uses in every conversation.

Why This is Important

Most of the effort in a Vincent conversation about a live matter goes into setting the scene: who the parties are, what the deal is, what stage it has reached. In a Project that background is entered once and available to every conversation, so nobody re-prompts it.

It does two jobs at the same time. A colleague newly invited to the Project reads it and knows what the matter is about. Vincent reads it and answers with that background already in hand.

How to Add Matter Details

In a Matter project:

  1. Open the Project and go to Matter summary panel.

  2. Fill in the summary, the key facts, and the parties. Each has its own fields.

  3. Save. The details appear in the Project view, and any of them can be edited or removed later.

Add case details in a Matter project by populating the summary, key facts, and party fields in the Matter summary panel. For General projects, use free-text project instructions to set standing directions and background information instead.

In a General project there is no matter summary. Instead you write project instructions, free text that applies to everything done in the Project. They can carry standing directions as well as background, for example an instruction to write in British English.

Note: Matter details are entered manually in this release. Nothing is pulled in from another system.

What Vincent Uses as Context

This boundary is worth knowing precisely, because it decides what Vincent will and will not have in mind.

Vincent uses: the Project's files, plus the matter summary, key facts, and parties, or, in a General project, the project instructions. Every conversation in the Project has all of that available without being told.

Vincent does not use: the content of other conversations in the Project. Each conversation is independent. A colleague's conversation is readable by you, but Vincent does not carry it forward into yours.

Best Practices & Pro Tips

Update key facts when the matter moves, not when the matter closes. The matter summary is the only place where a fact becomes available to both Vincent and the team. Treating it as a live record rather than a closing summary is what makes the Project compound in value.

Watch for contradictions between the summary and the documents. Vincent has both, and where they disagree it can be prompted to check the documents directly. If the summary has gone stale against a later draft, that is the moment to correct it.
