# Creating a Review Playbook

Build a Review from an existing playbook, from example documents, or by describing your standards to Vincent in conversation.

#### Summary

You can create a Review three ways: upload an existing written playbook, upload example documents Vincent can learn your positions from, or describe the standard conversationally. This guide covers all three paths, the party designation step, and how to change a Review after it has been created.

#### Why This is Important

The reason firms abandon playbook projects is the setup cost. Writing out every clause, term, and threshold from scratch feels like a quarter of work before anyone gets any value from it.

Vincent's creation paths are designed so you never start from a blank page. If you already have a playbook, that document *is* the setup. If you do not, a handful of agreements you were happy to sign carry your positions implicitly, and Vincent can read them out. Standing up a first working Review is a short exercise, not a project.

#### Before You Begin

* **Decide which side you act for.** Vincent will ask, and the answer shapes the whole Review. See [Understanding Reviews Playbooks in Vincent](broken://pages/HxRH5zgBqetY5JNhwd49).
* **Gather your source material.** Either your written playbook as a PDF or DOCX, or a set of documents that reflect positions you are happy with.

#### How to Create a Review Playbook

**Step 1: Open the Review Playbooks Tab**

Navigate to **Customize > Playbooks > Review Playbooks**. Playbooks opens straight onto Review Playbooks.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Do not start a playbook in an ordinary conversation.** Playbooks are created only from this tab. Asking Vincent to build one in a normal chat will not produce a saved playbook.
{% endhint %}

**Step 2: Click New Review Playbook**

This does not open a form. It opens a Vincent conversation with a set of guided cards docked above the message box, and a canvas to the right where your playbook appears as it takes shape. Building and editing use the same screen, which is why there is no separate wizard.

**Step 3: Work Through the Three Cards**

The cards appear in a fixed order, and skipping one reveals the next. Every path ends somewhere useful, so pick whichever matches what you actually have to hand.

| Card | What it asks for | If you skip it |
| ---------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------- |
| **1. Your review document** | Upload an existing review playbook or guidelines document and Vincent turns it into structured clauses. This is the best input you can give it, because your positions are already decided. | "I don't have this" |
| **2. Your sample documents** | Share three or more reviewed documents and Vincent infers your preferred, acceptable and unacceptable positions. The more you give it, the better. | "I don't have these" |
| **3. Build it together** | Describe the contract type and what matters most, and Vincent drafts the positions with you. Three starter suggestions are offered. This takes the most back-and-forth, but works when you have no example documents. | This is the last card. |

{% hint style="info" %}
**The samples card enforces a minimum of three files.** The Build button stays disabled until you reach three, so that Vincent is adequately grounded in your examples. Empty files do not count toward the three and duplicates are removed. A counter reads "2 of 3+ added" as you go.
{% endhint %}

The cards accept everything the platform ingests apart from audio and video, so PDF, DOCX, DOC, ODT, RTF, TXT, HTML, CSV, XLS and XLSX all work. Total upload size across the card and the message box is capped at 1 GB.

**Step 4: Answer the Party Question**

Before finalizing anything, Vincent asks in a dedicated card: *Who is this review from the point of view of?* For an NDA the options are Mutual (both sides), Disclosing party, Receiving party, and Something else. You can pick one, type your own in the "Tell me instead" box, or skip, in which case Vincent applies the default and tells you the assumption it made.

**Step 5: Read the Canvas, Then Save**

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Nothing is saved until you click Save.** Vincent proposes a playbook onto the canvas without writing anything to your firm. While it is still working, the canvas reads "Drafting clauses…" and is read-only. Once the turn finishes, expand a clause, read the terms, correct anything that is wrong, and click **Save**.

For a playbook that has never been saved, there is nothing for Vincent to save on top of. Your browser should warn you before you leave the page, but if you exit anyway the work is gone.
{% endhint %}

#### Editing a Playbook After Creation

Select the playbook in the library and click **Edit**. This opens the same builder conversation and canvas used for creation, with your saved playbook loaded.

**What you can change by clicking on the canvas:** the term name, and the Preferred, Acceptable and Unacceptable positions. Click the text, or press Enter or Space on it, to open an editor. Your typing is staged after a short pause; Escape reverts the field, clicking away commits it to the pending set, and **Save** writes the whole playbook.

**What you have to ask Vincent to change:** adding or removing a clause or a term, clause titles and clause codes, the playbook name and description, the represented party, and a term's favourable direction, unit and notes. Say what you want in the conversation beside the canvas. Vincent revises the proposal, and the change is still yours to save or discard.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Document type and jurisdiction cannot be changed after the playbook is built,** not by clicking and not by asking. If either is wrong and it matters, rebuild the playbook and give Vincent specific instructions up front.
{% endhint %}

#### Messages You May See When Saving

| Message                                                   | What it means                                                                          |
| --------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Some fields are empty. Please fill them in before saving. | A term name or one of the three positions is blank. All three positions are mandatory. |
| A term with this name already exists in this playbook. | Term names must be unique within a playbook. |
| You do not have permission to save review playbooks. | You hold the reader role. Ask an administrator for the Builder role. |
| Save failed. Please try again. | A transient problem. Retry, and refresh the page if it persists. |

#### Removing a Playbook

Open the actions menu (the vertical dots) on the preview and choose **Remove**. A confirmation dialog warns that this deletes every rule in the playbook and stops Vincent from reviewing against it, and that it cannot be undone. Builders can remove playbooks they own; admins can remove any.

#### Best Practices & Pro Tips

* **If you have both a playbook and example documents, lead with the playbook and use the examples to test it.** Build the Review from the written standard, then run it against two or three agreements you already signed. Terms that come back Unacceptable in a document you were happy with point to a threshold written too tightly, and that is far easier to find this way than in a live negotiation.
* **Name Reviews by document type and side, not by document type alone.** "NDA Review, Disclosing Party" tells you and your colleagues which one to run. "NDA Review" does not, and once your firm has two of them, someone will run the wrong one.
