### Key Terms

**A**

* **Act:** A law passed by a parliament or legislature; another term for a statute.
* **Amendment:** A change made to a piece of legislation.
* **Authority:** A legal precedent (such as a court decision) that can be used as a source in a legal argument.

**C**

* **Case Law:** The body of law created by judges' written decisions in legal disputes.
* **Cited Authorities:** A list of all the documents that a particular case on vLex has cited.
* **Cited In:** A list of all the cases that have cited the document you are currently viewing.
* **Consolidated Legislation:** A version of a piece of legislation that incorporates all amendments to date, showing the law as it currently stands.

**D**

* **Docket:** A formal record of all the proceedings and filings in a court case.

**J**

* **Judgment:** The final decision of a court in a legal proceeding.
* **Jurisdiction:** The geographical area or type of case over which a court has legal authority.

**P**

* **Precedent:** A court decision that is considered as authority for deciding subsequent cases involving identical or similar facts.

**T**

* **Treatment Type:** A label indicating how a subsequent case has referred to a previous one (e.g., "Approved," "Overruled," "Distinguished").

**V**
