# How to Use the vLex for Word Add-in

### How to Use the vLex for Word Add-in

#### 1. Install the Add-in

1. In Microsoft Word, go to the **Insert** tab and click **Get Add-ins**.
2. Search for "vLex" in the Microsoft Store and click **Add**.
3. Once installed, a **vLex** tab will appear in your Word ribbon. Click it and sign in with your vLex credentials.

#### 2. Find and Verify Citations

1. From the **vLex** tab, click **Find citations**. A panel will open on the right.
2. The add-in will automatically scan your document and list all found legal references (cases, legislation, regulations).
3. Review the list to see key details, status indicators for legislation (e.g., repealed), and negative treatment alerts for case law (such as a **Vincent Cert™** warning for a US case or a **Negative Treatment** for a UK case).
4. Use the **Add links** toggle to automatically turn all recognized citations in your text into hyperlinks to vLex Library.

#### 3. Get AI Recommendations with Vincent

1. In the vLex panel, switch to the **Vincent** tab.
2. Vincent will analyze the context of your document and recommend related cases, legislation, and other relevant materials from vLex Library.
3. Use the **Filter recommendations** menu at the top of the panel to tailor Vincent's suggestions by content type or jurisdiction.

**Check for Negative Treatment Alerts:** Always pay close attention to the red alert icons in the citations list. This is your critical warning that a case you are citing has been overruled or otherwise treated negatively, helping you avoid relying on bad law.&#x20;

* **Hover for Details:** In the citations list, hover over a case's neutral citation to see any available parallel citations.
* **Tailor for International Research:** When using Vincent, be sure to select your target jurisdiction from the toolbar at the bottom of the panel to get the most relevant recommendations.
