# Pro Tip: How to Navigate Documents Efficiently

### Summary

Navigate long legal documents faster in vLex Library by using the **Table of Contents**, the **Search in this document** feature, and the **Key Paragraphs** heat map.

### Why This is Important

Legal documents can be hundreds of pages long. Mastering these navigation tools is essential for an efficient **legal research workflow**, allowing you to pinpoint the exact section or passage you need without endless scrolling.

### Tips for Faster Navigation

#### 1. Use the Table of Contents

For statutes, books, and other structured documents, the **Table of Contents** is your best navigation tool. It is located on the left side of the document viewer. Click any section or chapter heading to jump directly to that part of the text.

{% endtab %}

{% tab title="Interfaz en Español" %}

{% endtab %}
{% endtabs %}

#### 2. Use "Search in this document"

When you need to find a specific keyword or phrase within the document you are viewing:

1. Use the **Search in this document** field at the top-left of the document viewer.
2. A list of all instances of your term will appear.
3. Click the **Go to passage** icon next to any instance to jump directly to that location in the text.

#### 3. Follow the "Heat Map" in Case Law

When viewing a judgment, look for the blue highlights in the text. These indicate passages that have been cited by other cases.

* The **darker the shade of blue**, the more frequently that passage has been cited. This "heat map" visually guides you to the most influential and important parts of the judgment.

**Use the Scrollbar Markers:** The scrollbar on the right side of a judgment also displays the heat map. You can see where the most-cited passages are located in the document at a glance and click on the markers to jump to them.
{% endhint %}

### Best Practices & Pro Tips

* **Hover Over Internal Links:** Before clicking a link to another document, hover over it to see a preview card. This helps you decide if the cited document is relevant without leaving your current page.
