vLex is built to work with different legal systems, jurisdictions, languages, and people. Every time you search with vLex, the service learns about the way you use it. To further improve your experience, there are settings you can use to ensure you are getting the best results.
Make vLex aware of what you find helpful by using the Rate this document button at the bottom of every document. This helps vLex make better suggestions.
For documents or journals that are paramount to your research area, or case that you are working on, you can choose to Follow them using the toggle you will find at the top of the document. You can then choose to get notifications or updates on your Home page when amendments are made or new issues are available.
For some jurisdictions, SmartTopics are available. These are smart filters that are created by vLex's artificial intelligence tools to group relevant information together on a particular area of law. Following a SmartTopic will ensure that when new information is released that relates to your topic of interest, you will be able to read it immediately from the Personalised news tab on your Home page. We recommend that for any area of law where you want to stay ahead of the curve, you follow the corresponding SmartTopic.
If you no longer wish to follow a certain document, journal or SmartTopic, use the Edit your vLex menu on the Home page.
Setting the country you are located in improves your research experience because it allows vLex to customise your Newsfeed to country-specific information. It also makes that jurisdiction your default for all searches. Set your country at any time by clicking Manage your account, in the top-right menu.
Of course, you might also be interested in other jurisdictions. For this reason, you have the option of changing your jurisdiction settings for every single search you conduct.
In the Jurisdiction menu, select as many jurisdictions as are relevant. Click Apply and save as default to keep your selected jurisdictions as default, or click Apply to just use them for the current search.
vLex Cloud allows you to integrate your knowledge with vLex to improve your research. Begin by syncing your documents using vLex Cloud. You will be the only person with access to these documents. Going forwards, every search you run will include your documents in the results if they are relevant, alongside vLex content. You can use vLex tools to build on your previous work, add notes and highlights, and check for any updates to any citations you have relied upon.
You can even sync a document with a list of citations you commonly use, and regularly run a Vincent AI search on it to make sure the citations are still relevant, the precedents are still reliable, and to see if there are any other related documents.
If you use vLex to explore content from other countries, or in more than one language, then you may be interested in our language and translation tools. Set the interface to one language, and the translation options to another. For example, this way you can see the service and options in English, search for documents in Spanish, and then read through the results in English, seamlessly. All of this can be set in Language settings.
The first option is the interface language. Changing this will not affect the vLex content, so you can have your interface in English and still read documents in their original language.
When the original document has been published in more than one language, they will appear in your default language based on your location unless you have changed your interface preference.
There are also options available if you want vLex to only translate certain languages. If you speak more than one language, let vLex know so that documents are not automatically translated. You can choose to get pop-ups giving you the option to translate, or chose to disable these.
